The Playbook: Renew when the books land

Matt Baltes, Director of Yearbooks

The best time to renew a school is not six months later. It is delivery week, while the yearbook is still in everyone's hands.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is waiting too long to renew your yearbook business for the next season. The best time to renew a school isn't six months later. It's not after summer break and it's definitely not when the adviser is overwhelmed again in the fall.

The best time to renew is immediately after the books are delivered. Why? Because emotion drives decisions.

When books arrive, the energy inside the school changes instantly. Students are signing pages and posting photos. Staff members are celebrating. Advisers are relieved, proud, emotional and excited all at once. The yearbook transforms from "a project" into a memory that people can physically hold in their hands.

That moment matters.

In sales, timing is everything and there is no stronger emotional moment in the yearbook cycle than delivery week. The value of what your studio provided is fully visible. The stress is gone. The appreciation is high. The trust is reinforced.

That's when renewal conversations should happen.

Elite sales organizations understand momentum. They don't wait for emotion to cool off before asking for commitment. They lean into the positive experience while confidence and excitement are still fresh.

Great partnerships reduce stress. Schools want to know they are taken care of. When you renew early, you're not "selling" them again. You're reinforcing stability, trust and confidence.

Don't wait until the emotion disappears. When the books hit the school and the excitement is at its peak…that's your moment.

That's the play.

Why Studio Source: Summer Singles

More studios choose Studio Source Yearbooks by Captura than any other wholesale yearbook provider in the industry. One reason is a unique part of our ordering process called Summer Singles.

Our competitors brag about owning their own printers, but they forfeit the convenient option of providing you with additional books, because the manufacturing processes they use don't make financial sense for it. At Studio Source, we love and encourage add-on book sales. We print thousands and thousands of yearbooks after your schools have distributed their bulk order.

For all those parents who forgot to order a yearbook, Summer Singles accommodates them while helping you make more money over the summer. You simply go back into your store through our Dashboard and set it up for books to be printed and shipped directly home. It's simple and fast. All you need to do is make sure parents know the option exists.
